This Headquarters provides offices for the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation and Affiliated Corporations including the Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, one of Virginia’s largest insurance companies. Located on a 20 acre wooded site, this four-story, 138,900 square foot building is designed for future expansion to 250,000 square feet. Portions of the construction documents were prepared in “packages” to allow a “Fast Track” construction schedule, meeting Owner’s occupancy needs and resulting in considerable cost savings. In addition to extensive provisions for computer systems, the facility also includes an Information Center and a Board Room which features current communications and audio/visual technology.

This Headquarters Building contains extensive Integrated Digital Voice, Video and Data Communications Networks utilizing a combination of conventional wiring, high-speed satellites, and fiber-optic channels. These networks give the company flexibility, security and control over their high-speed communications from any location within the facility and at over 100 locations statewide.

First Union Office/Technology Center

Glen Allen, Virginia

This new 412,000 square foot Office/Technology Center was designed on a fast track. The working environment reflects the First Union Workplace 2000 concept of an open office. The center consists of Data Processing and office space with raised access floors throughout. The mechanical system is state-of-the-art and uses an Ice Making System to augment the building’s cooling system. The building is a contemporary design of ground face masonry, tinted blue glass and silver metal panels. The exterior is designed to reflect the technology-based functions of the interior, and at strategic points, pulls the interior space beyond the exterior rectanglular shell of the building. There is a sophisticated security system and complete backup power sources for continuing operation during power outages.
