Western State Hospital, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, Staunton, Virginia Ballou Justice Upton (Architect of Record) in association with Cannon Design is currently working on the replacement facility for Western State Hospital. The facility will be a two-story, 338,900 square foot building including 244 patient beds with support staff areas. Patient activity areas include a gymnasium, classrooms and game room. Clinical treatment spaces and facility support areas include a full kitchen, laundry and maintenance/wash bay. The intent of the design of this facility is to provide a safe, secure, sustainable and pleasant place to live and work. An increase in appropriate socialization, especially outdoors along with campus security has been planned.

Southside Community Hospital Renovations and Addition, Farmville, Virginia Ballou Justice Upton designed the 43,171 square foot, five-story Ambulatory Building, housing emergency, radiology and outpatient services. The Lobby and Elevatory Lobbies were also expanded. Renovations included the General Surgery Operating Rooms, a Nursery, Delivery, OB/GYN Women's Pavilion and an Orthopedic Surgery Suite.

Drs. Schroeder, Stenger and Cole Dental Offices, Chesterfield County, Virginia Ballou Justice Upton provided architectural services for this 1-story, 4,815 square foot Dental Office Building. This facility includes 10 treatment rooms, offices, laboratory, x-ray room, sterilization, conference room, wellness areas, a counseling area, break room, and storage rooms. We worked closely with the Owner's Dental Equipment Supplier to coordinate the location and arrangement of equipment.

Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, Virginia Ballou Justice Upton completed multiple projects for Community Memorial Healthcenter. We completed a Facility Master Plan, major renovations and additions. The full range design services includes additions to the Emergency Room Wing, Education Wing, Materials Management Warehouse and Patient Wing.

Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia, Assisted Living Facility, Virginia Beach, Virginia Ballou Justice Upton provided full design services for the addition of a three-story Assisted Living facility of approximately 58,755 square feet. The addition is comprised of 49 Apartments, Computer Room, Multi-Purpose Room, Exercise Room, Wellness Center, Library, Senior Day Care Center, and Dining room equipped with a warming Kitchen. The main addition includes a one-story facility for the Memory Impaired. This addition houses 18 living units, Dining Room, Activities/Commons Area, Living Room, Laundry Room and a complete Nurses' Station. |

Cedar Manor Assisted Living Facility, Chesapeake, Virginia Ballou Justice Upton provided full design services for this 59,000 square foot, 60 unit Assisted Living Facility, with a 12 unit Alzheimer's Wing. The facility was designed to resemble a Georgian Manor house. Individual units include single rooms, one-bedroom units and dual units for a couple or two people to share.
