Located in Warrenton, Virginia, about forty miles southwest of Washington, DC, Fauquier Hospital is a 120-bed Acute Care Hospital serving a primarily rural community. Established in 1956 by a group of community volunteers, Fauquier Hospital is a not-for-profit Community Hospital fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). It remains independently operated, and governed by a volunteer board of trustees. Fauquier Hospital provides a full array of state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment capabilities to the people of Fauquier County, as well as the surrounding counties of Culpeper, Prince William and Rappahannock. Modern Patient Care Areas include two Medical-Surgical Nursing Wings, an Intensive Care Unit, Maternity Wing, plus Emergency, Outpatient, Physical Medicine, and Radiology Departments. As the only hospital in the county, Fauquier Hospital is the central hub of medical care in the area. The present facility was built in 1957 and designed by Ballou Justice Upton Architects who also designed newer expansion projects. |
Fauquier Hospital provides all services appropriate to the community hospital setting, including a wide spectrum of Inpatient and Outpatient Diagnostic and Treatment Services. The hospital participates with many different Insurance and Managed Care Plans, as well as providing care to those with no health insurance. An active staff of 80 Physicians and an additional 40 Consulting Doctors provide Medical Care at the hospital, 90 percent of whom are Board Certified in their particular areas of expertise. A third of Fauquier Hospital’s Physicians practice Primary Care Medicine, serving in specialties such as Family Practice, Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. The rest are specialists ranging from Cardiologists to Otolaryngologists. Almost every medical specialty is represented among Fauquier Hospital’s Doctors. With 600 Employees, Fauquier Hospital is the largest Private Employer in Fauquier County. Almost a third of Fauquier Hospital’s Employees are Nurses, about 93 percent of whom are Registered Nurses. More than 250 active Hosptial Volunteers also provide services to the organization through the Fauquier Hospital Auxilary. |

Ballou Justice Upton Architects has provided design services on over 250 projects for Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. Some of these projects include: McGuire Hall Renovations - McGuire Hall is a Research Facility that has been renovated on both the interior and exterior by our firm. We have planned new Laboratories as well as support systems and spaces. Nursing Education Building Renovations - This project involved the renovation of the Cafeteria on the basement floor to provide space for an Academic Learning Resource Center for Nursing Instruction. A. D. Williams Clinic Addition - Full Architectural and Engineering services were provided for the installation of a complete Pharmacy. Our firm has also provided demolition and construction of new facilities for General Dentistry and Oral Surgery Clinics which also included an X-ray Room / Dark Room and a Dental Laboratory. Wood Memorial Building Renovations - Full Architectural and Engineering services were provided to the existing space including enlarging Operatories, upgrading Plumbing Systems, installing Evacuation Systems, and designing Storage Areas to provide for Four-Handed Dentistry. The project also involved the removal of antiquated dental chairs (approximately 50 chairs) and the replacement of lights with state-of-the-art equipment. The entire North End of the First and Second floors were also completed renovations. |
Lyons Building Renovations - This project involved renovations to provide a Twenty Station Computer Lab connected to the Area Network. The renovated area includes a Computer Classroom, Offices, and a Computer Equipment spaces.

Ballou Justice Upton Architects provided full Architectural and Engineering services for the design of a new five-story Ambulatory Building. The new building will include an Emergency Department, Radiology Department and Outpatient Services. The Lobby and Elevator Lobbies were also expanded. Areas of the building were designed for parking. |
Other projects by our firm for Southside Community Hospital involved alterations and renovations for the General Surgery Operating Rooms, a Nursery, Delivery, OBGYN (Women’s Pavilion), and an Orthopedic Surgery Suite. |
